Cause Description:
In the course of conducting HIV/AIDS Awareness and prevention education programs in schools and other community-based venues, inevitably, some young individual in the audience will ask us in a tone of doubt, "You really believe that we can say 'no' to alcohol, drugs and sex? After five years of providing education, we at AIDS Alive have come to the conclusion that preventing the spread of HIV among youth requires us to develop a multi-faceted approach that includes: (1) Motivating youth to have a greater sense of self-worth and inspiring them to make positive life choices; (2) Providing youth with critical information on the potentially devastating impacts of HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, violence, eating disorders, etc.; and (3) Improving communication and leadership skills so that parents and educators can effectively work together with youth to ensure their health, safety and general well being.
