Cause Description:
Harrison Memorial Animal Hospital (HMAH) is the only nonprofit veterinary hospital in Colorado and one of only eleven such facilities in the United States. This 20,000 square foot, modern medical facility is centrally located in Denver. The hospital and staff are dedicated to providing quality health care for small animals normally kept as pets through affordable spays and neuters to the general public as well as a full range of veterinary services at about one-third the cost of private veterinarians to qualified, low income pet owners. In 1999 alone, the hospital treated over 30,000 patients, most of who belonged to owners with incomes at or below the national poverty level. The hospital’s unique “Angel” program allows donated funds to be directed to the medical treatment of pets whose owners simply cannot afford the required veterinary care or to animals that may not have an owner. The hospital supports over fifty animal shelters in the Denver metropolitan area with services enabling them to place animals that might otherwise have to be destroyed or might go on to produce many more unwanted pets. HMAH holds vaccination clinics and conducts community educational programs in addition to supporting an active extern program to enhance the training of senior veterinary students from across the country. With three complete operating rooms, a staff of seven full time veterinarians, 45 staff and over seventy-five dedicated volunteers, the hospital is able to serve a unique role in the community by providing quality, low cost veterinary care to those who need it most. HMAH believes in the proven benefits of the human-animal bond. We know that pets give a lifetime of unconditional love and devotion and for this they deserve the very best of care.
