Cause Description:
The Capital Area Food Bank is the largest, non-governmental, non-profit food distribution and hunger education resource in the Washington Metropolitan Area. In 1999, the Food Bank distributed 20 million pounds of food to nearly 800 member feeding programs, including more than 6 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables. Through our network of feeding programs - tax exempt 501(c)3 organizations such as day care centers, nursing homes, job training and transistional housing centers, homeless shelters and soup kitchens that feed people in need - we are able to provide more than 1,300,000 meals a month.
