The Family Place, a non-profit, United Way agency, has provided services to victims of family violence since 1978. The agency has served more than 38,237 battered women, their witnessing children and abusive partners seeking to end violent behavior, and has also responded to 266,519 crisis calls through the 24-hour Crisis Hotline. The Family Place services began as the first shelter for battered women and their children in the state of Texas, and has become one of the largest and most comprehensive family violence agencies in the nation.
