Cause Description:
Child Care Initiatives, provides supportive services to 325 family child care providers. As a sponsor of the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program, nutrition education, monitoring of meals and a meal reimbursement are provided to the provider to improve the health and eating habits of the children as long as specific criteria are met. Nutrition and health related workshops (thirty to forty per year) are provided free of charge to enhance the provider's knowledge of such topics as: food safety and sanitation; up to date nutrition information; developmental issues as related to feeding; special needs feeding and nutrition education of the children and parents. Additional financial support would provide the opportinity to increase the number of workshops offered free of charge or at low cost and expand resources for the provider. There is also the need for additional computer/scanning capabilities to develop a newsletter directly related to the provider.
