Cause Description:
Our mission at Rescued Rollers is to: Supply low-cost pet wheelchairs to animal rescue organizations, shelters, individuals and those who otherwise cannot afford them by refurbishing wheelchairs that are donated by private owners in the hopes of giving another dog the freedom of mobility, or by purchasing wheelchairs for these dogs in need through the generosity of our donors. Educate the public about the causes, needs and specialized care requirements of special needs pets through seminars, public speaking, and informative brochures. Assist the needs of rescue organizations, shelters and individuals in the care of special needs pets. The average cost of a medium-sized wheelchair for a dog is about $500, and specialized chairs can be much more expensive. This cost is not just a problem for individual pet owners, it’s also a huge problem for shelters and rescue groups, too. Shelters and rescues have to take into account the medical costs of pulling or saving a dog, and if they need to purchase a wheelchair in addition to other medical needs the dog may have, this puts the special needs dogs at a distinct disadvantage due to costs alone, not to mention the extra care and time needed for them. Our goal is to save dogs by providing low cost wheelchairs to rescues and shelters so that the retail cost of a wheelchair doesn’t enter into the decision to save or euthanize a senior or special needs animal.
