Poiema Foundation

Rockwall, Texas

Cause Description:
We envision a world that is aware of sexual abuse and exploitation and will not tolerate it. The Poiema Foundation educates the public and raises awareness in order to prevent sexual abuse, sex trafficking, and other methods of sexual exploitation. We also facilitate the restoration journey of survivors by providing for their physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual needs. Practically, we offer several different trainings on human trafficking and survivor care, we have a community awareness outreach ministry that spreads posters of missing girls who are suspected to be trafficked, and we have the goal of opening a safe house in Fall 2016 for women who have had a past of sexual exploitation and have already been through a long-term restorative program. This home will be used as a transitional home, so the women will be required to have jobs (or be pursuing jobs) or be in school. Our hope is for them to have an easier transition back into the world of finances, responsibilities, and relationships, and to lower the rate of relapse back to a life of destruction.
