Cause Description:
The DHEx Enterprises Pyramid STEM Challenge is our community based initiative to increase awareness and build an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to lead to college education and career paths in those fields. We partner with some local technology, government, foundations, organizations and individuals to support our mission. Our Challenge consists of several components: February – A Cyber Play Day event at our location during Black Family Technology Awareness Week. We also encourage sites across the City to host a Cyber Play Day - children get quick exposure to computers - learning how to build video games and apps and other online fun activities. Spring- The Pyramid STEM Showcase occurs during Philly Tech Week. This is a hands-on mini-expo of STEM-related exhibits, speakers, competitions and technology giveaways. It also includes quickie lessons in coding and engineering. Spring – Young Techie Awards – Given during the George Washington Carver Science Fair at Elementary & Secondary Level. Summer/Fall – A Pyramid STEM Challenge Competition for K- 12 grades. Winners receive technology related prizes or cash On Request - We present exhibits on Women in STEM, African American Inventors and African Americans in STEM We challenge our parents and the community to spur the development of logic and cognitive skills in our youth. These are the critical skills needed in science and math. To do this, we must be proactive early on. In addition to having your child reading as early as possible, we must also expose them to things that challenge their mind. We also attempt to pull these skill out of adults to have them aware of how STEM impacts their lives day-to-day or to encourage them to consider STEM careers.
