Who We Are Founded in May of 2012, Hearts 4 Paws is a 501c3 non-profit animal rescue that has been instrumental in saving the lives of more than 800 dogs in the pound. When several caring individuals discovered that dogs were being euthanized on a regular basis the group was formed to make the public aware of these animals in need of a loving home. The group began networking these dogs in any format available to them, i.e. posting, adoption events and word of mouth. Currently, H4P networks stray dogs from the Beauregard Parish Shelter, DeRidder Animal Shelter, Vernon Parish Animal Shelter, and the Fort Polk Stray Facility. Hearts 4 Paws also seeks foster families who can provide love, training, food and shelter to a dog in need until they find their forever family. The foster families are a big part of what makes it possible for H4P to save so many lives. At present Hearts 4 Paws has approximately 39 dogs in 17 foster homes. Before a Hearts 4 Paws foster becomes available for adoption, that dog is completely vetted, including heartworm check, rabies and booster shots, and spaying/neutering(if age appropriate). An important part of Hearts 4 Paws responsibility is to make the public aware of the importance of spaying/neutering their pets in order to prevent the birth of more unwanted animals in the pound.
