Granville County Shelter Partners for Adoption, Rescue and Education (Granville County SPARE), Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to the welfare of the animals in the Granville County (NC) Animal Shelter. By developing a positive partnership with shelter management and personnel, we strive to promote the animals housed in this small, municipal facility to approved rescue partners across the eastern seaboard and surrounding areas to improve exposure of those animals in need and provide a greater opportunity for their rescue. In addition to maintaining updated information on various social media and internet sites, we also regularly respond to provide emergency response to shelter management in times of critical capacity, acting swiftly and efficiently to coordinate live exits from the shelter, necessary vetting and certifications, and transportation to rescue partners, thus alleviating the need to euthanize adoptable animals due to lack of available shelter space. Additionally, in order to reduce the number of unwanted and stray animals entering the shelter system, we provide outreach programs to various groups of all ages and demographics, participate in local events, and work with community schools to educate the public in matters of responsible pet ownership and husbandry, focusing our education efforts on the value of spaying/neutering and microchipping pets in the community.
