Cause Description:
Mission Mission: “Saving lives, one puppy at a time”. The Municipality of Playa del Carmen (Quintana Roo, Mexico) does not have a monitored foster home program at this time. Following the great success of the “VIDAS Puppy rescue” project, “MexiPaws” would now like to concentrate our volunteer efforts in providing a better life to those animals in need that have little chance of survival on the streets. Description The “VIDAS Puppy” project (2014) provided us with an opportunity to remove 15 puppies from the CEBIAM (Municipal Dog Pound) before they had to be euthanized, or died from complications of disease and/or starvation. We were also able to save the 2 mothers of the pups. During this 4-day rescue we were able to help an additional 5 stray unwanted puppies; which lovingly came to be known as the “Pirate Puppies”. With the assistance of friends and the community, we secured caring foster homes throughout the Playa Del Carmen area for all of these animals. These 15 puppies were provided appropriate health care, food, shelter, and most importantly, love. By placing these animals with caring foster families, they have been socialized, offering them a greater chance in being able to find permanent families. We are very happy to announce that within 12 weeks, all 22 pups have found permanent, “furever” homes, and will now be able to give the love and companionship back to a “family”, that they are so eager to give! Goal: To place unwanted, stray, and abandoned street puppies into caring foster homes in the Playa del Carmen area. Furthermore, to assist in finding permanent homes for these animals, either locally, or abroad. The need for a foster-based program in Playa del Carmen is crucial. As the local animal shelters are constantly filled to capacity, many puppies are left on the streets to fend for themselves, often with unfortunate results. About 90% of the puppies on the streets will be met with an untimely death, or will be picked up by the CEBIAM (where they will be euthanized unless claimed within 30 days). We plan to "foster" a mutually beneficial program with the CEBIAM whereas puppies brought or born into their facility will have better opportunities for future adoptions! With the help of a “foster-based” program, these precious babies will receive the love, warmth, training, food, and medical care that they will need to live a long and happy life. In working closely with veterinarians in the Playa del Carmen area, we will be able to vaccinate and spay/neuter these puppies. Then, after a period of care, socialization and training within our monitored foster system, these puppies will travel to a foreign country with their new families, or will be adopted locally into good families within the area. (All prospective adopting families will go through an adoption screening process to ensure a good, “safe” fit for both the animal and the family.) Thank you for taking the time to visit our page. If you would like to help out in anyway, simply contact us, and let us know! We are not a rescue. We are a few animal loving people “saving lives, one puppy at a time”.
