Operation Smile is a not-for-profit, volunteer medical services organization that provides reconstructive facial surgery to indigent children and young adults in 19 developing countries and in the United Sates. Based in Norfolk, Va., Operation Smile provides education and training to physicians and other health care professionals to achieve long-term self-sufficiency. Since 1982, Operation Smile has treated over 50,000 children here and abroad, with one surgery costing an average of $750.
