Neuro-Cognitive Researce Laboratories (The Ohio Center for Research & Education in Alzheimer's Disease and Cognitive Impairments)is a non-profit neuroscience center. We specialize in the study of brain circuity in Alzheimer's disease and other disorders involving cognitive dysfunction (stroke, neurotrauma, mental retardation, and AIDS dementia). Our laboratory uses special staining techniques of brain tissue to microscopically visualize and analyze synapses and nerve cell branching of individual neurons. These quantitative studies are critical in the development of treatments for Alzheimer's to develope neuroprotective strategies for stroke, AIDS dementia, and brain damage , and in understanding underlying causes of mental retardation. We also support educational components including lectures on the aging brain, Alzheimer's disease, and methods to improve memory function; and we have internships where local college students come into the lab to assist in various research projects.
