Cause Description:
Founded by Dr. Becky Farley, a University of Arizona researcher and physical therapist with a PhD in Neuroscience, who is a Parkinson exercise expert. The National Institutes of Health funded her studies on how exercise can be implemented as medicine to help individuals with Parkinson Disease. She invented the LSVT BIG exercise program, now used throughout the U.S. She has since developed a more comprehensive model of treatment. She and her staff of similarly educated therapists train clinicians and fitness professionals throughout the country and have built a model community neurofitness center in Tucson, which specializes in proactive PD specific programming. As the organization grows, this Gym will be replicated in other parts of North America, in order to assist people by giving them the tools and information, which empowers them to make positive choices regarding this disease and thus live better and more productive lives.
