The Joyce Theater Foundation was incorporated in 1980 with a plan to create a home for dance in New York City that would be dedicated to serving and supporting the art form. Renovation of The Joyce into a unique, premiere dance theater commenced on June 25, 1981. Today, The Joyce oversees two of New York?s most important dance venues: The Joyce Theater, an affordable, state-of-the-art theater in Chelsea, and Joyce SoHo, a building at 155 Mercer Street in Lower Manhattan that offers three excellent studios at a highly subsidized rate for rehearsals and performances to independent choreographers and non profit dance companies.
