Le Monde Immersion is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2008 by parents and educators for the purpose of creating a full- immersion French public charter school in the Portland Public School District. The mission of Le Monde Immersion is to educate children in our community through a well-rounded American curriculum that honors and embraces global cultures, and focuses on developing students with integrity who value service, leadership, and respect for others. Le Monde's program is a full-immersion French- language program. Le Monde's vision is a publicly-minded one, focusing on issues of accessibility and equability in which full-immersion French education is available to all children in the Portland community regardless of socio-economic status. Le Monde Immersion School is now accepting kindergarten applications for the 2011-12 school year while we await approval of our public, charter school status. During this initial 2011-12 year, Le Monde will operate as a low-cost, private Kindergarten in southwest Portland. Beginning with the 2012-13 school year, Le Monde will operate as a public charter school (pending PPS approval), welcoming both kindergartners and first graders in the fall of 2012. Le Monde will proceed to add one additional grade each year, until grades K through 8 are established. Once Le Monde receives its public charter status, there will be no cost to attend.
