Cause Description:
Offering military sexual trauma survivors a chance to be heard discreetly through the work of Art Therapy while providing public awareness. Fatigues Clothesline is a Non-Profit program that is both an awareness and art based therapy program for military sexual trauma (MST) survivors and their families, a program that is developed to creating a dialog between the survivor and their group leader, counselor as well as with their family members. Through the work of art, it gives the survivor the power to express themselves freely whether it be through drawing, writing and or painting. It is also a program for individuals who cannot talk to counselors, social workers and families but are willing to participate for a cause by promoting awareness. Fatigues Clothesline is not anti-military, this program is merely a form of Art Therapy and to promote Awareness about Military Sexual Trauma (MST) to those who may not know it exist. - Empowerment - Gaining back the voice which was taken from our veterans. Often times, our veterans are not able to say anything for fear of being labeled and losing fellowship or due to threats. Not only our veterans are affected but their family is too. As a family, they are able to gain back empowerment together. - Gaining Confidence - By allowing the public to read what happened to our veterans and by allowing our veterans to hearing what society has to say about situation will help our veterans regain confidence. As a Family, by participating it gives the family a sense of release and in doing so will create sense of peace. - Establish communication skills - symbols help with words which makes it easier to talk about what happened, not only to the counselors who is working with them but with their family members as well. - Gaining Individuality – What happened to our veterans took their identity away. It is time for us to help our veterans who survived military sexual trauma (MST) by helping them take back who they once were. - Help Promote self-esteem - Whoever they are whether they are man or woman, our veterans deserve a chance with a future full of love, understanding and most of all accepted for who they are. - Bringing a sense of Unity into one's family and self. When something like this happens it sucks the life out of the survivor and it’s easy for them to crawl into a shell. After this happens not only does the veteran suffer but the family suffers as well, spouse and child are affected. The use of art may help bring our fellow veterans closer to their family so they may not miss that smile, the shine in their loved ones eyes or to truly appreciate what life has to offer. It is time to help by lending a helping hand filled with compassion, support, understanding and love.
