Cause Description:
There are nearly three million refugees in Africa, many of whom live in refugee camps. But too often, the camps are unsafe. Some refugees remain despite the risk of attack and rape, while others flee to slum areas where they have virtually no access to healthcare or support. Based in Cambridge, MA, and Nairobi, Kenya, Mapendo was founded to fill critical gaps in humanitarian aid. Through resettlement missions, urban health care, research and advocacy Mapendo devises and implements short and long-term solutions for victims of persecution, massacre and terror whose struggle to survive would otherwise go unnoticed or unattended.
