Cause Description:
St. Martin de Porres High School, as part of the Cristo Rey Network of schools, is transforming Urban America one student at a time. St. Martin exists to serve the economically, educationally, and racially marginalized youth of Northeastern Illinois, primarily the Waukegan and North Chicago communities. Our students are 84% Hispanic, 12% African American, and 4% Asian, Caucasian, or Other. Nearly 80% are free and reduced lunch eligible as determined by the National School Lunch Program guidelines. Hire4ED, our corporate internship program, makes St. Martin affordable for our students. Every St. Martin student works 5 days per month in an entry-level professional position provided by one of our business partners, earning about 70% of his or her tuition.
