Cause Description:
Caring for individuals with diabetes throughout the lifespan- from infants to adults - is our mission at the Kovler Diabetes Center. As a part of the Section of Adult and Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University of Chicago Medical Center with various locations, including La Rabida Children's Hospital, the center specializes in: Diagnosis: Comprehensive, complete and accurate diagnosis, including genetic testing capabilities, enables us to tailor treatment to the individual's unique genetic profile. Treatment: Treatment is highly individualized to meet each patient's specific needs. We use the most effective medications and technologies to stabilize blood sugar and minimize long-term complications. As a research and treatment center, we're able to offer patients the very newest options, including innovations that are only available at a few leading diabetes programs worldwide. Complications: Our multidisciplinary approach addresses the many ways that diabetes can affect a person's physical and emotional well-being. Diligent intervention helps to minimize complications. Prevention: Preventing diabetes before it begins is the most effective intervention. Research programs here target people at high risk for diabetes, including African-Americans and Hispanics. Education: Understanding diabetes is an essential first step for controlling it. Through one-on-one training and group classes, we teach our patients about everything from monitoring blood glucose, to healthy eating, to using insulin pumps and glucose meters. Our Pediatric and Adult Diabetes Education Programs are very comprehensive, and have both earned recognition from the American Diabetes Association.
