Founded in 1870, Erie’s mission is to promote a just and inclusive society by strengthening low-income, primarily Latino families through skill-building, access to critical resources, advocacy and collaborative action. For 138 years, Erie Neighborhood House has empowered individuals to achieve their fullest potential through a broad spectrum of services tailored to meet the challenges and aspirations of Chicago’s low-income families and immigrant residents. In Chicago’s West Town, Humboldt Park and Little Village communities, Erie’s education programs help almost 5,000 participants annually create better lives for themselves and their families while strengthening community action and civic engagement. Erie House offers community-based education: nationally accredited preschool and after school care for children ages two to 12; a home day care network for infants and toddlers; college preparation, personal development, internships and apprenticeships, and recreational opportunities for at-risk teens; English as a Second Language, ABE/GED tutoring, citizenship services, vocational English and workforce preparation, and leadership development for adults; and technology instruction for all ages. Erie also offers emergency food and referral services.
