Cause Description:
Glasswing International, USA is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded in September 2007 in Amherst, Massachusetts. Our primary purpose is to mobilize resources and raise awareness in the United States for social investment projects and humanitarian initiatives in Central America. Our unique model utilizes a small team of technical experts in the U.S., with efficient operating expenses, to support regional programs where local experts identify needs, set objectives and develop initiatives that make sense for the region. This way, funding we receive is primarily for regionally implemented projects, building the capacity of those in the region and ensuring that projects receive maximum resources and technical support as needed. Through the expertise of our board - comprised of professionals from the diverse fields of medicine, public health, education, humanitarian aid, business, and communications and marketing - and other volunteer advisors, we ensure that projects we invest in are sound, provide accountability and meet the appropriate needs of target groups, directly and efficiently. This is achieved by the fundamentally collaborative and respectful nature of our relationship with partner organizations in Central America and a consistent presence in the region to monitor and provide technical input to projects when needed. One of our most important goals for social investment is the mobilization of non-monetary resources (human and material) in the region. We are determined to involve people from all sectors of society in the projects we support, to encourage social integration and reduce fatalism in Central America. The idea is to not only add human and community value to our investment in the region, but to serve as a catalyst for sustainable change.
