The goals of the Kansas Africa Relief, Inc. are to increase public awareness of South Africa’s current social climate as well as provide financial assistance to existing community organizations, clinics, and networks. Currently we are supported by contributions through individuals. South Africa Quick Facts: • Population: 44 million (equivalent to the population of California) • Life Expectancy: about 42 years • Poverty Rate: 40% • Health Coverage: 25% • HIV/AIDS: 5.5 million people infected o 100% affected • Public Hospitals: see 86% of population; only receive 40% of funding; employ 25% of general practitioners At the moment, we are in the process of establishing our policies, governance and objectives. We have not applied for 501(c)(3) status; however, tax-exempt status applies retroactively.
