Help Lei Fund

Lei Fund

Honolulu, Hawaii

Cause Description:
Lei Fund provides a scholarship and activity fund for underprivileged kids, with a preference for the children of Maili Land transitional housing in Waianae. Hawaiian word for love; aloha, is expressed to both friend, and stranger whether they are coming or going. In this sense giving a lei, is literally, the natural extension of sharing aloha. Our fund is called Lei Fund as the sharing of a lei is the figurative expression for what we are trying to do. We would like to share our lei fund and our love with the children, who need our help most. In this sense we would like for the underprivileged kids of Hawaii, to become the responsibility of our community. And as the guardians of our children, they would become our lei, each one of them the favorite child of our community. The lei meant a great deal to old Hawaii. The favorite child in the home was called a "lei".
