CASA of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit, WV, Inc. is an organization that trains community volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children. Our volunteers complete an intensive 30 hour training program that covers child abuse laws, domestic violence, child development, family dynamics, advocacy and communication skills, community resources, writing reports, etc. The volunteers are sworn in by a judge and become actual members of the court. The volunteers meet with the child/children so they are aware of their needs and can advocate for services to meet those needs. The advocates do an independent investigation and report directly to the judge so he has more information about the child and the family. CASA advocates are also a child voice in court. We always report the child's wishes, even if they are not what are in their best interest. CASA advocates are assigned to cases from the child was removed until safe, permanent, and happy housing is achieved. By returning home, residing with family or being adopted. CASA advocates try to assist the children so the abuse they suffered does not continue by the overworked system.
