Cause Description:
Crisis Support Services of Alameda County (formerly Suicide Prevention) provides 24-hour counseling and support to any caller in crisis. The agency has 17 staff and more than 80 trained volunteers from the community who are available to assist those in need. The agency's mission is to reach out and offer support to people of all ages and backgrounds during times of crisis, to work to prevent the suicide of those who are actively suicidal, and to offer hope and caring in times of hopelessness. CSS also offers a "Friendly Visitor" program for homebound seniors, grief counseling to those who have suffered losses and outreach and education regarding depression and suicide to young people throughout Alameda County.
