Cause Description:
Valley Community Coalition is a community-based organization that provides support to youth who have problems with substance abuse, especially those who are not yet using but are facing enormous peer pressure to do so. The stated mission is to reduce the use of illegal substances by our young people. The VCC has a youth group, SODA [Students Ok without Drugs or Alcohol] which is very active and addresses the peer pressure. SODA has over 80 members in grades 7-12 from a total school population of just over 500 in grades K-12. Valley Mentoring, a subgroup of the VCC, is entirely supported by donations. The VCC and SODA are supported by grants and extensive local contributions.
