SHUMLA is dedicated to bringing people of all ages to a deeper understanding of their cultural heritage and their environment. This is achieved through educational programs based on the results of ongoing archeological research in the Lower Pecos River region of Texas. By understanding how early inhabitants of this challenging environment survived, very successfully, for thousands of years, today's citizens can take pride in their predecessors' achievements and better understand how to inhabit and protect this fragile area.
