Cause Description:
The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham (formerly the Association for Retarded Citizens) has been serving individuals with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities since 1962. We provide information and referrel, advocacy, and social activities. Our largest program is The Arc Op Shop, a day support program for adults with mental retardation. The Op Shop program is part educational, part pre-vocational, and part recreational. The Op Shop provides meaningful activities in a safe supported enviornment. In 2005, both The Arc offices and the Op Shop moved into the newly rennovated Lucy Simms Center. Now we are raising the funds to pay back the City of Harrisonburg for our share of the building rennovations.
