Cause Description:
The American Institute of Irish Archaeology is a non-profit organization established under the laws of the State of Missouri with the intent of enhancing the status of Irish archaeology in the United States as an academic discipline. Presently, there is no academic program at any American university that offers Irish archaeology as a discipline. Yet, there is a great student interest in the field, and to meet this interest the Institute was founded in order to present archaeological opportunities to interested students in the United States. The basic means by which the Institute will accomplish this goal is by providing a venue for American college and university students to participate in archaeological excavations in Ireland. The Institute, through its own website and by collaborating with other archaeological groups, matches interested students with appropriate summer programs in Ireland. The Director of the Institute maintains collegial relationships with academic archaeologists in Ireland, and can therefore direct students to relevant opportunities in Ireland.
