The Salt Lake Art Center was founded in 1931 as a private non-profit organization to foster visual arts and artists in Utah. Since then the Center has been an important, independent part of the cultural community in the Salt Lake Valley and one which has focused on contemporary art. The purpose of the Salt Lake Art Center is to encourage contemporary visual artists and art which challenge and educate public perceptions of civil, social and aesthetic issues affecting society.
