Cause Description:
The mission of ARTS IN PROGRESS, Inc. (AIP) is to foster the education and healthy development of urban children and youth through the arts. The agency was founded in 1980 and incorporated in 1981 by two Boston artists who believed in the power of the arts to advance educational and social service objectives for urban families. AIP offers School-based and Community-based programming, by conducting direct services to youth, professional development for adults who work with youth, and policy and advocacy work on behalf of the field of arts education. AIP has grown from a single program serving 10 area youth to an agency with programs and services annually serving over 8,000 youth, 800 educators, and 100 elders in every neighborhood of Boston. Recently programs have grown beyond Boston to serve other urban centers in eastern Massachusetts (including Lowell, Lawrence and New Bedford.)
