Cause Description:
Root 4 Ruthie! is a fundraising drive for my aunt, Ruth Jackson. Originally from the Philippines, she is the baby among 7 siblings. By way of New York City, she now lives in South Florida with her husband and her three boys ages 12 and 10 year old twins. She also has a 19 year old who is an Education major at Concord University in W. Virginia on a 4-year scholarship. Ruthie was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2005. She underwent a hysterectomy in hopes of removing the cancer. Unfortunately, the combination of negligence, poor medical treatment, and low quality healthcare coverage was not effective in removing the cancer that remained in her abdomen and eventually spread to her bladder. In her effort to win this battle, she will be leaving to NYC to receive treatment at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Her husband will be left to support the entire family and pay for her uncovered medical expenses - all on one mediocre income. Our goal is to raise money to help her family in the coming months to meet their basic needs (rent, utilities, school expenses, etc.) while she is away. We also aim to contribute to the expenses that will not be covered by her insurance company.
