Cause Description:
Veterinary Ventures, International Veterinary Volunteers is a group of volunteer veterinarians and other veterinary related staff who travel internationally to help control small animal populations. We are a new organization and for now, our primary focus is on the islands of the South Pacific where vet care is minimal. Dogs and cats are malnourished, overpopulated, anemic, parasatized and have complications due to giving birth to multiple litters of puppies and kittens. The animals are often mistreated as a result of their overpopulation and negative effects on tourism. We send a group of approximately 25-30 volunteers to the island, enlist the help of the local island government, and set up a field hospital to spay and neuter as many dogs and cats as possible during a month. Our goal is to repeat this process on a given island at least annually until approximately 75% of the dog and cat population has been sterilized. We are a 501c3. Volunteers receive no monetary compensation and pay their own airfare and incidental expenses, while still assuming financial responsility for living expenses at their homes (ie mortgage, rent, bills, etc). All supplies for the mission are donations or purchased through donated money. We rely solely on donations to make each mission successful.
