Cause Description:
Lyme Disease is a dangerously under-recognised in Kentucky and neighboring states. Travis Mitchell is a 23 year old KY native diagnosed with both Lyme disease and ALS (Amytrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease). ALS is a fatal neuro-degenerative disease that normally affects persons in their 50s and beyond. The connection between Lyme disease (easily prevented) and other diseases like MS (multiple sclerosis), ALS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Heart problems and more, is still being researched. Meanwhile, others are being misdiagnosed or under-treated. The Travis Mitchell Lyme Fund is designed to support medical needs not covered by insurance for Travis. In addition, the fund supports activities to promote awareness, ducation and advocacy at the community, state and regional level.
