Community Action Council for Lexington-Fayette, Bourbon, Harrison, and Nicholas Counties, like other community action agencies across the United States, works to address the causes and conditions of poverty locally. The Council's fundamental belief is that all people in the community are connected. If the challenges faced by low income people are addressed and they have the same opportunities enjoyed by the majority of the community, then the quality of life for the entire community is improved. Community Action Council is dedicated to combating poverty by offering opportunities for low income people to achieve self-sufficiency and providing services so that each community member and family is able to reach their full potential. The Council works to serve the low income population through advocacy, service delivery and community involvement. The Council realizes the factors affecting poverty vary from neighborhood to neighborhood, and community to community. To enable it to address the variety of needs, the Council has organized itself around neighborhood and community centers. Community Action Council takes a holistic approach, offering comprehensive services with measurable results. Each center has a core set of available programs such as energy assistance, Head Start and family development services that form the base for the center's activities.
