Cause Description:
The Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley chapter serves the eight counties of Southeastern Pennsylvania, 7 counties of South Jersey and all of Delaware. It is the local chapter of the National Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association. We are dedicated to helping people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and their families through education, advocacy, and support. Our core services include: Helpline/Contact Center - Our toll-free Helpline/Contact Center (1-800-272-3900) is staffed by professionals and trained volunteers who provide information, referrals, and emotional support to callers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. (free) Caregiver Support Groups – Over 140 support groups meet monthly throughout our area to provide a place to learn about coping with Alzheimer's disease. Included in this number are specialty support groups focusing on early stage patients and related neurodegenerative disorders. (free) Family Caregiver Training - is designed to help caregivers and family members of persons with Alzheimer's or a related disorder cope with the everyday and long term-term needs of their impaired relative. This eight-hour training consists of four sessions held over the course of a month or a full Saturday. (free) Newsletter - The chapter's quarterly newsletter contains tips for caregivers, information about support groups and training sessions, current research and treatment findings, advice on legal and financial matters, and news about Chapter events. (free) Professional In-Service Training Program - Multiple courses for professional caregivers on the special needs of persons with dementia. Fee for service. Safe Return Program for Wanderers - Registrants receive an ID bracelet, clothing labels and wallet cards -- all inscribed with a toll-free number where an operator is available 24 hrs. a day. Staff members assist the family if the registrant is lost. A $40 one-time, lifetime fee is charged. Speakers’ Bureau - We provide speakers and informational materials to businesses and community organizations interested in learning about Alzheimer's disease and Chapter services.
