Cause Description:
There are some 13 million refugees in the world, about 80% of whom are women and children. Ousted from their homes due to genocide, religious persecution, war, torture, or political violence, many spend years within refugee camps, where they can suffer from hunger, loss, and deprivation. Interfaith Refugee and Immigration Ministries helps resettle these survivors within Illinois, providing them with the tools they need to live happier, self-sufficient lives. Our programs include: Refugee Reception and Placement, Employment and Adjustment, English Language Training (ELT), a Refugee Youth Program, the Senior Services Initiative, the Women’s Empowerment Program, Immigration Services, Free Citizenship Classes, Medical Case Management, and the Pan-African Association, Chicagoland’s newest mutual-assistance agency.
