The Cycling Challenge starts early August from Petrinje, Republika Srpska Krajina to Presevo, Srbija. "Once I am in Eastern Bosnia, I will need to adjust my focus onto the mountains. This is when years of racing and training pays its dividends, where the high altitude can create havoc. Some climbs were a constant 3 plus hours, 12 miles or had 25% plus grades,” said Smaic who rode the same course last year August. Regrettably, last years ride was forced to stop 2 days from the finish due to land mines and Albanian snipers on the next day’s course. Intimidation from Croatians and Albanians to not complete the Humanitarian Fundraiser is constant. All donations goes to purchasing essentials and restoring the destroyed Diocese and helping the Serbs of Kosovo. “We want to ensure that all the money Pedal in Peace Cycling Challenge 2004 generates will benefit the Diocese. These last months have seen priceless relics of church history being destroyed by terrorists who show zero respect for culture and ethnic harmony," explained Smaic, who rode the inaugural Cycling Challenge last August.
