Cause Description:
The Resource Foundation empowers the working poor in Latin America to achieve greater living standards for their families and communities. Established by individuals from both developed and developing nations, it is founded on the conviction that the most effective solutions to socioeconomic inequality are local responses and that strengthening the local nonprofit sector promotes sustainable progress. The Resource Foundation works with 50 member private development organizations (PDOs) in 16 countries throughout Latin America. The PDOs and participating community members implement programs in basic education for children and youth, urban and rural microenterprise, low-cost housing, environmental conservation, sustainable agriculture and primary health care. The Resource Foundation supports their valuable work by providing technical information and assistance, training, fundraising, representation and networking services to its member PDOs. The Resource Foundation also serves individual, private foundation, religious and corporate donors. Services include identifying local PDOs that execute high-impact programs, selecting specific projects that meet the donor's philanthropic objectives, providing grant proposal, funds transfer, tax deductibility, program oversight and semi-annual reporting services in English. It sponsors field trips for volunteers to work in-country and then do some tourism, too. As we often put it, "we don't give a fish; we teach how to fish and then make a loan for the pole."
