Young Audiences of Northern California’s mission is to make the arts – classical, contemporary, and multicultural – an essential part of every young person’s education and life. Young Audiences of Northern California (YANC) implements its mission by providing the highest quality arts programs in the performing, visual, literary and media arts to children, teachers and families in schools and community sites delivered by our roster of 136 artists and ensembles from throughout California, the nation and even abroad. These programs include both in-school and after-school activities. Last year, our combined programs served over 325,000 children at schools and community sites throughout the greater Bay Area. Young Audiences of Northern California is a consolidation of Young Audiences of the Bay Area (YABA) and Young Audiences of San Jose and Silicon Valley (YASJSV). Founded in 1958 and incorporated in 1963, YABA was the region's oldest and largest arts education organization. The first in-school assembly music program was organized in 1959. Young Audiences of San José & Silicon Valley was founded in 1968, and soon became a leading arts education resource for Santa Clara County. As a combined organization, YANC has over 80 years experience serving children, families and educators. YANC is one of 32 chapters of Young Audiences, Inc. (YAI) the largest provider of arts education services in the country. In 1994, YAI was awarded the National Medal of Arts, presented by President Clinton in recognition of this achievement.
