Cause Description:
NOAH is addressing the AIDS ORPHAN crisis in SOUTH AFRICA By 2050 we will look back and see that the most significant factor shaping the history of the previous 100 years (1950 to 2050) will have been the AIDS pandemic. The WHO (World Health Organization) now regards South Africa as the most severely HIV infected country in the world (with over 5 million people infected). In Africa the high risk of exposure to TB and other infections aggravated by the lack of adequate treatment makes the transition from HIV infection to death rapid. From a planning perspective all HIV positive people are dead in eight to ten years. This impacts on the numbers of orphans that are left behind. Parents will die before their children are adults. All of a woman’s children, born before she is infected, will be free of HIV as will 30 to 60 % of those born after she is infected (even without preventive treatments) - so they will survive her.
