Cause Description:
FAAST began its existence in 1992 as a federally funded grant project and was housed with the Florida Department of Labor and Employment Security, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. FAAST was designed to develop and implement a consumer responsive, comprehensive, statewide system of technology-related assistance and systems change for individuals from birth to death. In 1997, FAAST became a private not for profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Commissioner of the Florida Department of Education. Fifty-one percent of the Board membership must be composed of persons with a disability or be a family member of a person with a disability. FAAST works with consumers, family members, caregivers, providers and agencies to ensure that individual's continue to benefit from assistive technology as they move between home, school, work and community.
