What Is Project Under 21? Vision: Our vision is to create and maintain an environment where every person accepts and complies with Oklahoma’s under 21 drinking laws. Mission: The mission of Project Under 21 is to eliminate under 21 drinking and stop any person, anywhere, anytime, anyplace from providing alcohol to anyone under 21. Project Under 21 is designed to raise community awareness about the seriousness of the under 21 drinking problem, deliver prevention messages, and build a consensus among community leaders, public officials, health and prevention professionals, parents, educators, business leaders and those under 21 that under 21 drinking is illegal and unacceptable. Through public education, vigorous enforcement, training and community engagement, Project Under 21 strives to eliminate under 21 drinking in Oklahoma. The primary goal of Project Under 21 is to motivate the change of community standards and public policies that accept or encourage under 21 drinking. Additional goals are to: deglamorize the promotion and use of alcohol by persons under 21, increase enforcement of existing under 21 drinking laws, educate about the consequences of providing alcohol to those under 21, educate policy makers at all levels about issues relevant to under 21 drinking, increase the knowledge and resiliency of those under 21 about the risks and consequences of under 21 drinking, and actively solicit involvement of those under 21. Project Under 21 sponsors statewide law enforcement training on specialized enforcement techniques to combat under 21 drinking. Retailers are targeted with point of purchase materials on issues relating to identifying and not selling to those under 21. Those under 21 are encouraged to create a Club U21 in their own colleges or schools. We also distribute free informational materials, such as pencils, posters, bumper stickers, key chains, and tattoos to those under 21, schools, parents, retailers, and law enforcement.
