Cause Description:
Project POOCH is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that matches shelter dogs with incarcerated youth in the MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility. Our mission is for the youth to learn responsibility, patience, and compassion for all life by working daily with shelter dogs and using humane methods to obedience train them. The program emphasizes education on humane laws, cruelty prevention, breed temperament and selection, and proper animal care. To date, through our 10 years of operation with over five-hundred participants, none of the Project POOCH graduates have returned to crime, as documented by an independent researcher. All Project POOCH dogs are spayed/neutered, ID microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and certified AKC “Canine Good Citizens” before being re-homed to permanent, loving families.
