Cause Description:
A Mothers' Center is a community group established and operated by mothers. Mothers meet to support and learn from each other, as well as from community professionals. Issues of concern to mothers can be addressed such as the adjustment to motherhood including the postpartum period, building a network of support for this important work, normal child development, and parenting skills. Programs at local centers generally revolve around discussion groups, and also often include drop-in time, play groups, 'Mommy & Me' classes and informative lectures and workshops. The national organization has done specialized Mothers' Center programs in the workplace for employees dealing with work/life issues, for women recovering from postpartum depression, in transitional housing settings, for teen moms, and for moms and their pre-teen daughters.
