Cause Description:
CORA Services is a community based, multi-disciplinary, non-profit agency that has been serving the children and families of the Philadelphia area for more than thirty years. CORA, which stands for Counseling Or Referral Assistance. Founded in 1971 as a mission of the Sisters of Good Shepherd the agency has been transformed over its history from a small neighborhood counseling center to become one of the major human service providers in the city. Each year through a variety of school based and community programs, CORA will assist close to 30,000 at-risk children, youth, and their families. The enclosed material will offer a quick overview of who we are and what we do at CORA. The agency is funded by contracts with the School District of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, the City Department of Human Services, the Office of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Programs, fee for service, and small foundation grants. CORA holds true to its earliest tradition that no one in need is ever turned away for ability to pay. The growth of CORA has always been in response to demonstrated needs in the community. Geographically located in lower Northeast Philadelphia, CORA's school services and community programs span almost one-half of the city.
