ARROW Community Garden and Community Center

Astoria, New York

Cause Description:
Established in 1991. ARROW is a community based and volunteer run organization, dedicated to improving the environment of its Western Queens neighborhood. The primary goal of ARROW is to ensure that valuable natural resources are preserved and that public land is used safely and remains accessible to all. ARROW's main project at the present time is the operation of a community garden and NYC Park on 35th Street between 35th and 36th Avenues in Long Island City, Queens. ARROW cleaned up a dangerous empty lot to establish a garden and to provide a recreational and environmental learning area for the public in a neighborhood with little park space. The building and garden is owned by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, and is managed by ARROW. ARROW is a non-profit and volunteer organization. Our board members and volunteers donate hundreds of hours a year to maintain the building and gardens, in order that everyone in our neighborhood can enjoy and use this green space and community facility.
