Open Communities is a leading voice for housing, economic and social justice in north suburban Chicago, working to promote inclusive and diverse communities that are welcoming to all. Founded in 1972 by north suburban residents and congregations, Open Communities is a non-profit, membership-based organization whose programs include: Services: We serve individuals who face housing discrimination, foreclosure, and conflict with their landlord or management company. We also provide a Homesharing Program matching people with an extra room with people seeking affordable housing in the northern suburbs. We also provide immigrant leadership workshops. Advocacy & Education: Through grassroots organizing, by acting as a resource to local leaders, in hosting workshops and forums, in public advocacy, Open Communities lends support for concerted housing, economic, and social justice efforts.
