SHELTER, Inc. of Contra Costa County is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to help homeless Contra Costans obtain economic self-sufficiency, sustain permanent housing and enhance human dignity. Their mission is fourfold: 1) to establish and operate emergency shelters, transitional housing and long term affordable housing; 2) to develop and manage rental assistance, fair housing and landlord/tenant counseling; 3) to coordinate services and create new programs for low-income and homeless people; and 4) to serve as a clearinghouse for information on homelessness.
